Thank heavens for Oddball Artists

Odd and eccentric would best describe artist Elsie Mistie Sterling, 1907-1960, whose collection of botanical paintings are now on display at the Arts & Science Center.

Her story includes a 7,500, 14-year nomadic journey on foot through the South during the Great Depression -- a crackpot husband and doctor with a doubtful physician's degree -- a religious commune -- paintings abandoned and lost ...

These paintings come from the permanent collection of the Arts & Science Center.

Well-known art and little understood artist.
